DESCRIPTION

We know it's been an up-and-down news week and that some folks are feeling dispirited while others are ready to take action. We also know that the work to hold Trump accountable is not over. Here's some more context about the moment we're in. The fact that Mueller was able to even complete a report is no small feat! Our network played a crucial role in holding back the attacks Trump lobbed daily at every part of the investigation. When Trump installed a crony, Matthew Whitaker, in a role overseeing Mueller, we mobilized nationwide protests that helped thwart Whitaker's ability to undermine or stifle the investigation. But our work isn't done. Despite incredible, bipartisan consensus that we deserve the full report, Barr is giving every indication that he has other plans—dropping cryptic hints about releasing bits and pieces without a clear timeline. His refusal to meet the deadline set by Congress would be a crystal-clear indication that he is ignoring the public interest. Critics have asked why we need to see the whole thing if Barr says Mueller found no collusion between Trump and the Russian government. First and foremost, Congress and the public deserve to review the findings, not just accept the summary from Trump's own hand-picked AG. Barr also quotes Mueller as saying that the report "does not exonerate" Trump of criminal counts of obstruction of justice. Mueller reportedly left the decision about whether to allege criminal activity of Trump with Barr—whose predecessor was removed by Trump specifically because he could not or would not obstruct the investigation. Whatever that report says, wherever it may lead, we deserve to see a declassified version in full. Period. Congress agrees with that. At least they say they do: Two weeks ago, the House voted 420-0 in favor of a bill stating that Mueller's report should be made public. Only 15 representatives in the entire House didn't vote for it—amazing! But Mitch McConnell has pushed pause on that bill in the Senate. We can demonstrate to lawmakers that the public is behind the fight for the full report—and to show Republicans that we are not letting them off the hook.
